An updated info post since sure, why not? If you want the original one with a longer, content warning filled explanation of their background, it's over here.

If you're already aware of that and just want the shorter, updated version, well here we are. As always, if you're in a mood to only read one thing I recommend the "What you and your character will see" section. Let's get started!

Meet Marc and Steven

Marc Spector is a former US Marine and mercernary who, due to abuse in his childhood, developed Dissociative Identity Disorder. As such, he shares a body with Steven Grant, a mild mannered former museum gift shop clerk who also happens to be British.

Also due to a near death experience Marc agreed to take on the role of Moon Knight, the avatar of the Egyptian god Khonshu. You know, as one does.

Stupidest thing Steven's heard
Steven, upon hearing that Marc is the avatar of Khonshu.

Though they share a body, Marc and Steven are distinctly separate people and will be played/ask people to treat them as such.

The spoiler filled but short explanation of their canon.

Moon Knight is a six episode show which aired on Disney+. It takes place in the same universe as the MCU at some point after the events of Endgame.

The quickest summary is that it starts as the story of Steven Grant, mild mannered British museum gift shop clerk, who struggles with sleep and memory issues. Over the course of the show he discovers that his memory issues are because he shares his body with Marc Spector, a mercenary who tells Steven that he, Marc, is Moon Knight: the avatar of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon and night sky.

During the course of the show Marc and Steven come to terms with the fact that they are two personalities in the same body due to Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Together they work with Marc's wife Layla to prevent Arthur Harrow, the avatar of the Egyptian god Ammit, from killing millions to prevent any evil those people might do. Along the way Layla becomes the avatar ("Temporary!") of the goddess Taweret, thus turning Lalya into the Scarlet Scarab (and by exetension into the first Egyptian superhero in the MCU).

Layla as Scarlet Scarab
Layla is badass and we love her.

By the end of the show Marc and Steven have freed themselves from their bondage to Khonshu. However, they are unaware that the only reason Khonshu agreed to it is because there is a third personality neither of them know about, Jake Lockley, who is still working as Khonshu's avatar.

Getting the boys to Fandom

Marc and Steven have come to Fandom directly after the events of season one, only with two changes.

One I'm saying Marc and Layla had a relationship but were not married, because I can't see any version of the multiverse where Steven would let Marc divorce Layla out of some sense of noble stupidity. So Layla is in Egypt being a superhero and she and the boys keep in touch.

Second, instead of leaving Khonshu, I'm saying Marc and Steven agreed to re-up their agreement to be Khonshu's avatar in exchange for coming back to life so they could help Layla defeat Ammit. As in canon, they are unaware that Khonshu agreed to everything they wanted because Khonshu knows about Jake and Marc and Steven do not.

What about Jake?

Since Jake only had the barest of screentime and bares only superficial resemblance to his comics counterpart - literally - I'm holding off on role playing him until the MCU gives me more to go on. But just because you don't see Jake doesn't mean he's not around. As on the show, he exists in those pesky negative spaces.

Their Powers

As Khonshu's avatar, Marc and Steven can both magically summon suits which grant them enhanced speed, strength, fighting skills, flight, and healing (more on how much healing in the next section).

Moon Knight drawing his weapons

Marc's version of the suit looks like a combination of armor and linen wrapped bandages, and Seven's looks like a bright white three piece suit because when somebody tells you "summon the suit" you assume Savile row and not a mummy fetishist's wet dream.

Steven in his Mr Knight suit

For those who know the names, the different suits means that Marc is "Moon Knight" and Steven is "Mr Knight." However, the MCU changed how the names worked so as of me writing this the only name that exists in canon is Moon Knight, which is the title of Khonshu's avatar. "Mr Knight" has only appeared in the show's credits and is not (yet) a name Steven uses to refer to himself.

Without their suits Marc and Steven have no powers. Marc has fighting skills and familiarity with guns and other weapons due to his past and, because they work as a team now, Steven can pull this knowledge in a pinch. However, Steven is very much not a fighter as he would prefer to solve problems without violence whenever possible.

For his part, as the god of the moon and the night sky Khonshu has cosmic level abilities. However he, like the other Egyptian gods, can only work through his avatar. (Well, he doesn't have to limit himself but if he acts on his own the other Egyptian gods punish him by locking him away.) As such the only things Khonshu can do on his own without getting in trouble is make slight breezes to try to get people's attention.

About that healing ability (and how it might be useful for you/your character)

One of the more notable aspects of their powers is that while they are Khonshu's avatar they cannot be killed. Either their wounds will heal by summoning the suit or, if their body does go all the way dead, Khonshu will bring them back to full hale and hearty life. In the comics this ability has been tested to extremes like dismembering Marc's body and scattering the pieces. Which means as long as they are pledged to Khonshu they are effectively immortal.

What that means for you is that if you have a plot you'd like to do which needs someone to die (or, well, "die") feel free to hit me up. In the comics death happens so often Marc isn't even bothered by it.

I've died before. It was boring, so I stood up

As of right now MCU Marc has died twice and Steven once. They've frankly got catching up to do. If we can help out someone else while they do it, so much the better.

What you and your character will see

I'll always try to make it clear in the narrative what your character is looking at. But in general Marc stands with confidence and dresses well while Steven is more shy and shlubby, though this assumes that whoever is in charge of the body in that moment is the one who picked the clothing.

Luckily there are the accents. Marc's is American with hints of Chicago and Steven is working class British (which I refuse to write out phonetically, YOU'RE WELCOME). So as soon as the boys open their mouths any character who has met them would be able to know who is talking and thus give an IC reason for your character to know the OOC information contained in things like "Steven said."

Marc and Steven can talk to one another via various methods in canon but to make life easy in a text based world as a default I will say that whoever is in control of the body speaks out loud and whoever isn't is communicating inside of the mind, as indicated via italics.

The boys often make use of reflections to "see" one another as they talk but this is entirely a trick of their own mind. So anybody watching this happen would only hear whoever is in control of the body, and would not see anything usual about the reflection.

Steven and Marc talking via reflection
Steven on the left, Marc in the reflection on the right

As far as Khonshu goes, in text I'm going to steal from Terry Pratchett and HAVE HIM TALK LIKE THIS. But as far as your character goes, according to canon only the current avatar or potential future avatar of an Egyptian god can see and speak to them. So anyone watching Marc or Steven talking to Khonshu wouldn't see or hear anything Khonshu said or did. Marc and Steven really look like they love talking to themselves.

That being said, there's canon and then there's Fandom. So as far as powers go the rule of thumb I'm working with is that if your character has the ability to discern anything in a soul or a mind, they might have the ability to pick up on things like Steven and Marc talking to themselves. And, separately, if your character has the ability to discern anything about gods they might be able to pick up on things with Khonshu when he's around.

All I ask is that you check with me OOCly first so that we can coordinate (thebratq at gmail dot com or thebratqueen#7653 on discord). I'm 100% for it, I just want to be sure we're communicating so I can give you what you need for what your character is seeing/picking up/etc. Basically please don't come out of the gate all "Oh I can see you have tons of people living in your head!" without asking first.

Related to that, as far as Jake goes in canon he is EXTREMELY hidden. Marc and Steven do not have the ability to process any hints of his existence. To the point where they've woken up surrounded by dead bodies and assumed the other one must've done it (and, when the other denies it, they shrug off any worry about it and move on as though nothing happened). So if your character tries to engage with Marc or Steven about anything Jake related, even if it's them coming from a canon where they know Moon Knight and have met Jake, don't take it personally if Marc and Steven reply with a lot of blank stares, subject changes, or straight up misunderstanding. It's not me refusing to "yes, and" the RP, it's me keeping them in character. (And hoping one day for more canon so I can finally do the Jake in Fandom arc I've been dreaming of...)

About Me

TBQ's Avatar
An accurate picture of me at home.

Hi! I'm The Brat Queen or TBQ for short. She/Her. I'm on East Coast US time. I don't work due to being disabled. No clue when/if that status will ever change. As such I'm around a lot but weirdly. Which is to say I ping at all hours of the day but, thanks to meds knocking me out, I also vanish for hours at a time when I'm incapable of being awake. It happens on a pretty regular schedule though, usually every six hours give or take.

I also have a website where I do media analysis, which means that when there's a show on that I'm regularly reviewing I'm busy the day it comes out and can't ping at all. I used to be able to say that was Wednesdays but SOMEBODY changed the release schedule of MCU Disney+ shows so who the heck knows these days? But otherwise yeah, I have no life.

OOC communication is love so feel free to hit me up in email at thebratq at gmail dot com or thebratqueen#7653 in discord whenever you need. And you can find me in social media and other such places via all the links here.

Aaaaaaaaaand that's it. Questions? Comments? Gremlins?

and not a mummy fetishist's wet dream.

OKAY WOW, JUST WOW. WORDS HURT YOU KNOW.

Also, at some point when this girl has to go visit the plane Amonkhet, Steve and Marc desperately need to join her. Which is where both her journal name and her default icon come from

I mean I do. Especially since he'll either be fascinated or infuriated by how not Egyptian this "Egyptian" plane is. Plus, it deliberately evokes a sense of "there's something wrong with this world that you can't quite put your finger on."

So yes I would like to popcorn literally all of this.
