Today was an anniversary of sorts. It was the anniversary of when Steven and Llewellyn had first met, back when Llewellyn had moved into flat #15.

At the time, Steven had invited Llewellyn over for a coffee. And thus in honor of the occasion they were getting together for coffee. Also they were going to attempt to make biscotti together, which had nothing to do with their first meeting but had sounded like a fun thing to try.

Thus, after getting back from Lana's class, they had brought over all the necessary components for baking from Llewellyn's flat, naturally also brought over Raphael to join them, put on a pot of coffee, and were ready to get started.

"Not where I pictured us a year ago," Steven said as he helped arrange ingredients on the counter. "Here I thought you were just a nice new neighbor. Which you were, of course."

“All I knew back then was that I wanted to get to know you better,” Watts said. “And I must say that has gone particularly well.”

"I've no complaints about it," Steven said. He leaned over to kiss Llewellyn on the cheek because he could. "Definitely didn't imagine being able to do that though. Not at first."

“I tried to resist my own feelings on that matter,” Watts said. “Both because I thought you were already involved and because I was wary of more heartbreak. Now, of course, I don’t care to imagine life without being able to do this,” and now it was his turn to kiss Steven on the cheek.

"You knew that soon?" Steven asked. "When we met?"

“I was captivated by you almost immediately, yes,” Watts nodded. “You are a very attractive man, Steven Grant. And conversation with you was quite enjoyable. I certainly came away from our initial meeting hoping to cross paths with you again.”

Steven blushed at the compliment. "Yes. Well. You're rather handsome yourself."

“Flatterer,” he replied fondly.

"It's only true," Steven said. He grinned at Llewellyn. "Besides, you started it."

And perhaps some day Steven would realize Llewellyn had started it the very day they met, by saying Steven's face was symmetrical.

And as far as Watts was concerned, he considered Steven objectively handsome whereas Steven clearly subjectively considered Watts so. Not that it mattered in the end, really.

“Speaking of starting, we’d best begin baking,” he pointed out.

Though not without sneaking another kiss first.

"I'm glad you remembered the most important step," Steven said, sneaking a kiss back. "Entire thing would be ruined without it."

“That step can and should be omitted when baking with someone else,” Watts said solemnly.

"True." Steven gave Llewellyn another kiss for pointing that out. "Course I really only bake with you. Very exclusive, my baking."

“I am flattered,” Watts said sincerely. “I know this isn’t your pastime the way it is mine, but that you are willing to do it with me does mean a lot.”

"I like doing things with you in general," Steven said. "Any excuse to spend time with you, really. And this way I'm learning something useful."

Also he got to watch Llewellyn do something he was good at and felt passionate about. That wasn't an unattractive thing to look at.

"Strictly speaking you don't need an excuse, but I'm glad to share it with you all the same," Watts said. "Dry ingredients first," he added, starting to measure the baking powder out and gesturing for Steven to do the flour. "Level it off with a knife as you did last time."

"I remember that one," Steven said, rather proud of himself. "Scoop then level. See? Learning thanks to you."

“Perfect,” Watts declared as he added the salt. “We’ll give these a stir, and then next is creaming the butter and sugar together.”

"Right," Steven said. It was possible he was looking at Llewellyn with affection as they worked.

“For this to work properly, the butter ought to be soft, but not melted,” Watts continued as he put the butter and sugar in another bowl. “Also, modern technology makes it far easier than if I were to do this by hand,” he added, picking up the electric hand mixer he’d brought over.

He was so focused on what he was doing that he missed the look Steven was giving him, yes.

Of course the more Llewellyn was caught up in his work, the more Steven looked at him with affection. The dry ingredients were sadly very ignored at this time.
